You will have a lot more fun if  know the music when you get to the festival. You can bring your sheet music to use for rehearsal time, but no music will be held during the show!

How to read your music

Barbershop sheet music has a bass and treble clef, just like regular choral music. Each part takes a different line of of the music. However, there ARE a few differences, so check out below.

How to read your music
  • Tenors read the treble clef using the notes that have stems going up, usually the top note, but not always. (Sometimes the tenors and leads swap positions!)
  • Leads read the treble clef using the notes that have the stems going down, usually the bottom note, but not always.
  • Baritones read the bass clef using the notes that have stems going up, and notes are sung an octave higher than the note written!
  • Basses read the bass clef using the notes that have stems going down, and notes are sung an octave higher than the note written!

MC script

MCs, or Masters of Ceremonies, are the people who announce parts of a show or an awards ceremony; they can be any combination of guys and girls. We will need two people this year to do MC work between Kokomo and Sweet Caroline

If you want to be considered, auditions will be held during Saturday’s lunch. Melodee and Chera will decide on the two performers who have the best character and chemistry together. The expectation for the MCs is that the script must be memorized, which means if you are selected as an MC on Saturday — when you aren’t singing — you’ll be running lines to get the script off paper (or memorized!)

The Longest Time

The Longest Time is a doo-wop song by Billy Joel, released in 1984. Joel did all of the vocals and percussive sounds. The song is a tribute to the doo-wop sounds of the 1950’s, which Billy Joel loved. It comes complete with lyrics about being crazy in love with a girl!

Best Day of My Life

You will perform this song with the members of Alaska Sound Celebration as the closing song for our show. Best Day of My Life was released in 2013 by the pop rock band, American Authors. and it was written as a song to make people happy and positive. They wanted to create a simplistic happy earworm to make people happy!

This song is a 3-part song written for Soprano I, Soprano II and Alto. Basses will sing the Alto line, Baritones will sing Soprano II and Leads and Tenors will sing Soprano I. This is a super fun song!
